#13772 I am not surprised in the least about the verdict in the Ferguson trial, and I am also not in the least bit upset about it. Take yourself out of what happened, get rid of race and think about it, if someone tried to reach for your gun, wouldn't you feel threatened enough to maybe, I don't know, stop them? So lets say you shoot them, they die. Self defense if you actually were in any danger. But they were "unarmed", right? Yes. But if they get the gun from you, aren't they armed now and definitely more dangerous to you? Duh. I for one would most definitely shoot someone trying to take my gun (If I carried one) if they were acting in a way where I felt my life was in danger, and I would probably only have a few seconds to think about it. So in regards to the Ferguson case with Officer Wilson, why can't we see that he might have been in a situation where he feared for his life and made a split second decision to save it. It's easy in hindsight to call him a racist and a murderer and say his actions weren't justified but I believe that the grand jury got this decision correct.
(I believe this is only an issue of race because of the hyper-sensationalizing that the media has done to it)

#13769 Let's see a show of hands for those who actually READ the autopsy report of Brown. I did. And since it showed that he was shot facing the police officer with arms outstretched (not in the air), I'm a whole lot less surprised by the verdict. I understand if people are upset but please take time to review ALL the facts before you say, "A white cop shot an African-American boy and it's wrong."

#13768 Okay, so I'm a guy (white, male, 19) who was having a conversation with a group of friends about the Ferguson case and someone commented saying how my "white privilege was showing". I have the slightest of problems with this. The way I was brought up defined a privilege as something you earned and could be taken away if deemed fit. I didn't "earn" my race, nobody can. So how can the fact that I am white be a privilege? Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that white individuals in society have greater opportunities and are far less likely to be charged with crimes, but to me that's not a privilege, it's just an unfortunate fact that this country still has racial problems and tension among its citizens, as demonstrated and sensationalized by the Ferguson Trial. Just because I thought that the trial ended the way that it should have, does not under any circumstance demonstrate me flaunting my so called "privilege". I looked past the races of both individuals, and judge the situation accordingly. Not once did I state that because Wilson was white he should be let off the hook. Feel free to rebuttal in the comments, I'll be happy and interested to listen to what you have to say :)
