I think people should try to remember to be kind when commenting on these confessions. A lot of comments are rude and hurtful. You never know what someone is going through.

I am we'll aware of the unstated rules of social interaction and strive to obey them as best I can. However, some are just silly. Specifically, when it comes to asking a woman on a date, there seems to be several barriers set up by women that make such a simple task unnecessarily complicated. Perhaps, in future confessions I will detail all of these barriers. For now, I am content to confess the one that most annoys me right now and causes me to lose hope in my dating prospects. To bluntly put it, women at this school easily become creeped out when I approach them with no context for doing so. When I give a bashful smile and request to sit with an unfamilar woman at the CSL, the library, etc. for the unstated purpose of wanting to get to know them to see if she is someone I want to date, usually her body tenses up, and immediately she is on high alert. Battle Stations! Unfamiliar male approaching! While preferring that I not sit down, the women I ask often always say yes in order to not appear unfriendly and because women generally tend to not be as direct as men in asserting their preferences. Having unfriendly body language that communicates disinterest while agreeing to my request is very confusing. Such a combination is saying yes and no to a yes or no question. So, way to go ladies. Unsure of which message is the real one being communicated, I often choose what is said over what is implied since I am not a mind-reader.

Now, I am aware that there is no context for my request to sit with them and this would explain why women become nervous in my presence. However, this does not explain why I need any context or why women become creeped out in the first place. I am simply asking to sit with them at lunch. I am not asking them to marry me nor am I aiming for some booty call. Of course, they do not know my intentions. Guess what, though, one of the purposes of having a conversation is to gain such knowledge. Women can learn more about my intentions and I can learn about their character if they would simply be more open to idea of being approached by a stranger. Even if a woman is not fond of my advances, this can easily be stopped. Instead of awkwardly fiddling with their necklace in a nervous and despondent manner, they should directly express that the situation is making them feel uncomfortable and not assume that the power of body language alone is not enough convey such a message. Putting your face in your phone as an alternative is just rude and not very effective.

To the girl at the armed security guard forum tonight who sounded like she was crying whenever she talked: you are an imbecile who knows nothing about firearms or understand that their purpose on campus would be to resolve conflicts that put other people's lives in danger. Instead, you beat around the bush all night by asking things like "Wouldn't this affect how neighboring towns might view us, and wouldn't that be a bad thing?", or my favorite was when you asked "I'm really concerned with how you're saying you have three guards here who were cops, then left to become unarmed guards, and now you're arming them again?".....and you just sort of left it more as a statement than a question. My response to you: Who gives a fuck? I'd rather have safe students on campus than give a shit what Silvis or Hampton thinks about the fact we would have three guards (who are ex-cops) be armed. I like how much public safety shut you up, too, by informing you that some people wish to retire from certain jobs. Dumb ass.

Whoever thought it was a good decision to close the trash rooms in Erickson and Westy is a dick. I don't wanna walk my garbage all the was to east jesus nowhere.
