Someone commented on a post here saying something like 'you can't always empathize, that's why sympathy is a word.' Just pointing this out, empathy and sympathy are synonyms. The main difference in their definitions is that sympathy involves pity. So would you rather have someone try to understand what you go through (which anyone, regardless of how different they are from you, can do when provided with proper context) or would you rather they simply pity you?
As a black woman, a feminist, and an advocate for the general disenfranchised, I feel the biggest mistake people make in their quests for equal rights is to hold white people, especially men, responsible. Yes, white people, especially men, currently reap the benefits set forth by the white founders of this nation. But I have never seen an example of a white person admitting they have privilege change things, and I have worked in many cities across the Midwest. One of my favorite quotes from a dear friend and leader in several equal rights movements is: "Holding the modern white man responsible for the current state of society is akin to holding Barack Obama responsible for the state of the nation on his first day in office." Progress takes time and effort, and pointing fingers and demanding shame and guilt only serves to impede progress. I hope some of you who engage in this behavior read this and put forth your energy into more productive avenues.

I am honestly terrified by the fact that people that I graduated from high school with are getting married and having children. It's like they have all their shit figured out and are actually ok with being adults, then here I am, just trying to get through the day-to-day stress of college. I don't resent them, but it kinda makes me feel like shit when I see how ok everyone else seems to be with all these responsibilities and duties that come with adulthood in comparison to the nervous wreck that I am.
Why is the bishop so oddly proportioned? it pisses me off every time I have to walk past it. I wish it was knocked down and the school was renamed to something not reminiscent of pigs.
