"To the person who makes broad generalizations about marijuana usage and is quite uneducated by the topic, I encourage you to attend this event at the Anderson Center on Wednesday. Here is the description:
"Last year, about 750,000 people were arrested for marijuana-related offenses in the U.S. Billions of dollars are spent to enforce marijuana prohibition every year. Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow, and others have argued that marijuana laws are among the primary vehicles "for the war on drugs' racialized arrest and incarceration system." Students have faced loss of financial aid and discrimination in housing and employment due to our nation's marijuana laws. However, public attitudes and state policies are changing, and 18 states have now legalized medical marijuana, two states have fully legalized marijuana, and a majority of Americans support legalization. But what is happening in Minnesota?
Kurtis Hanna, Executive Director of MN NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws), will be discussing the importance of cannabis legalization first through a broad historical overview, which includes discussion of racial prejudice and governmental domination. Next, he will move the topic to Minnesota with an update on state-level affairs, a brief overview of the legal ramifications of possession, and his own personal experiences as a Minnesota activist. Finally, he will end with a Q & A session and resources for those who want to get involved in this important social justice issue.
When: Wednesday, April 24, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Where: Anderson Center 304/305
What: Lecture, discussion and free food"
Educate yourself and be a bit more open-minded and realize what is moral and what is legal is not mutually exclusive."
"Not to scare off any prospective students anything, because I love being here at Hamline. However, it's very frustrating and demoralizing going to a school where the administration and various offices care very little about your success and well-being, even students such as myself who give so much back to the community. I would jump in front of a bus for most of my fellow Pipers, but the people in charge of everything makes it hard for me to stay here. I just want to cry or scream, but I know that the community here makes all this bullshit worthwhile, cause I know I'm not the only one being screwed over and treated like shit, and I want to thank those who have kept me here despite everything."
"All female Steely Dan fans: YOU HAVE A PERMANENT PLACE UPON MY LAP"
"Yvonne Thorpe is a cutie, fellow brothers cannot deny."
