#3806 And so the great rape debate begins. In one corner the notion that the girl was being vindictive, throwing the guy's life under the bus along the lines of having drunk sex then accusing him of rape (technically in this scenario, assuming both were drunk, both parties were raped by each other as neither could legally give consent). In the other corner we have the possibility of the potential rape victim and the guy deserving whatever life-ruining consequences that he may face. WHO WILL WIN?! Literally no one. As long as confessions about it keep cropping up. Does anyone think that seeing confession after confession about the incident is making this any easier to deal with for the girl or the guy? Regardless of what actually happened, is it really our business to use it as a conduit for a social anonymous "debate". I ask that you leave them in peace. Yes the rape culture exists, yes its a problem. But using this one occurrence and molding it to whatever argument you want to make isn't helping anyone. If you want to do something about it, I beseech you, go out there and raise awareness. Go campaign for more required sexual assault awareness education at Rollins. But please stop posting anonymous rants, littered with insults about anyone who disagrees with it. Anonymous Armchair Activism does nothing for anyone.

#3804 I have been raped three times by different people. Let me explain how much guilt the victim already puts on themselves: I used to think it was my fault the first time for wearing a skirt. The second time, I thought it was my fault for wearing a dress. The first two times were by well liked, popular guys who I was friends with at the time. But, the third time, he spiked my drink, I blacked out, and I woke up in a hotel room naked with stranger. I only reported it the third time. I never will again. The process of reporting rape is incredibly embarrassing, lonely, and scary. I had to strip down naked in front of strangers so they could report the bruising, probe my insides for DNA, among other disturbing tests. People will judge you for what you were wearing or who you were with, and I'm sure some people would just label me as a slut. But in reality, I know that it wasn't my fault for wanting to wear a skirt, dress, or going to a bar. You don't even know how painful it is until it's happened to you. Nearly every one of my girl friends has been sexually assaulted, and that's the messed up reality. Rape isn't some uncommon thing, it happens all the time to almost everyone. Since it happens so often, you should NEVER accuse someone of making it up. It's hard enough for the victim to admit it happened to themselves in the first place. Trust me, I know all too well.

#3807 Ok, I'm the one who wrote the first post about the girl that everyone is freaking out about. First of all, I'm not your typical Rollins guy asshole and I am not saying the guy is innocent. This goes to a broader problem with what constitutes rape here. Again, trust me, I hate rapists and I think they should be thrown in jail forever but my only point I am trying to make is that it is wrong that a couple that has been dating for a while (and I know that wasn't the case with these two people) can have a drunk night and sleep together and the girl (or guy even though this rarely happens) can wake up the next day and say she got raped because they both were drinking. She could have been completely seducing the guy and deceived him into thinking she really liked him. THERES NO LAW AGAINST A ONE NIGHT STAND. All I'm trying to do is raise awareness to guys that might get seduced by a girl when they are both drunk and she can wake up the next day and say she got raped even though she could have been the ring leader. I understand that most of the time it is the other way around and the guy is usually the problem but I have seen cases where the girl is the problem and she is the one prosecuting the guy and trying to ruin his life so that is all I'm trying to educate guys about. The side of the story that is less seen. That is all. Go Tars

#3803 To #3793: You're absolutely right. We should definitely attempt to understand a viewpoint that perpetuates a rape victim-blaming culture. I'm all for sharing opinions, but when an opinion is toxic, such as one regarding the blame game in rape scenarios, bigotry, racism, misogyny, etc. (basically something that affects someone else's rights/state of living), that is where my tolerance ends. Also, the confession you are referring to was grossly uninformed and flat out wrong, so it's not exactly surprising people sought to voice their own opinions about it. Yes, let's all just live and let live, slowly drowning in our own stupidity as we do it! Because that type of attitude definitely worked well for American racism and people like Hitler, right?
