#5147 Can we address the large number of closeted gay men at Rollins? I have a feeling that's where this hate speech is coming from. Way too many insecure men here that are threatened by the lgbt community. The sad part is it speaks volumes about their capacity as leaders. This school is full of followers that just care about impressing and getting approval from others.
#5146 Your responses seem to suggest that you feel completely alone and unsupported and yet if you look back at the comments on this board it's obvious that many people on this campus, professors and staff members included, love and care for you. If you really feel alone, please reach out to the resources available to you but don't overlook the support you already have.
#5145 I'm not a fan of debating on Rollins Confessions. But I want to take a minute to acknowledge how we should be proud of the students here for their ability to maintain educated conversations about differing viewpoints and their ability to (mostly) do so without hate speech or personal attacks, even on an anonymous forum. Criticism is an important part of a discussion, as long as it's criticism of a point of view rather than criticism of an entire person. As far as I've seen, there's only been one instance of the wrong kind of criticism and students of all sides of the debate were quick to point it out and denounce it. I guess Rollins is doing it's educating thing right after all.
#5144 Geez where are all of funny raunchy posts... Stop being so serious with your posts nobody gives.... Meanwhile any women in the audience want to make me a sandwich, and no mayo please
#5143 We are blessed to live in a country where we can voice our opinion in any fashion we see fit. This is a freedom that we may sometimes take for granted, but it is a freedom nonetheless. We attend an institution that aims to develop each and every one of us into a well rounded individual that can make an impact on this vast and diverse world that we live in. Somewhere along this road, we are also charged with a task. That is to discern our likes and dislikes in all imaginable facets. Eventually we need to choose what we want to add to the world after four or more years of curbing our talent and training our curiosities into expertise. There is no exact map for this endeavor, but the destination will always remain the same. Maturity of the mind and body. The way you may react to an issue or situation may drastically vary based upon your environment, socioeconomic status and cultural upbringing and this means that we are all unique and truly brilliant because we all bring a new perspective to the table. True freedom is the ability to listen to another persons opinion and accept it even though we may not understand it. It is also understanding that it is not everyone's responsibility to fix the issue that you find paramount. Just know that you can be the change that you want to see in the world but recognize that every one has a change that they also want to see. Thank you all for taking the time to read this and please feel free to comment with you genuine opinion...you may say something that could change my life...
#5142 I get that no one wants to be called a racist or homophobe or whatever. But I don't see that often. I see people saying an action or statement was racist or homophobic or whatever and the person jumping to the conclusion that the other person called them racist or homophobic or whatever. Maybe everyone just needs to take a step back and look at themselves first. Activists, Allies, everybody. No one is unproblematic. Every is problematic. Everyone has problematic behaviors but its the viciousness of both sides that is the problem. People need to take the time to actually articulate what it is they want to say instead of just immediately responding from a place of hurt but. But people also need to recognize when someone is calling them out from a place of hurt and engage the conversation a little bit later. Everyone has work to do. Its tiring work but its work that needs to be done. Stop assuming everyone is against you. Activists, Allies, everyone.
#5141 I mean no disrespect but, can people stop commenting on P. R.'s life. We all have our own shit no need to throw someone else's in the spotlight whilst keeping yours in the dark through an anonymous forum. Also, P.R. these confessions aren't worth your time and I think it would be better for you to stop trying to defend yourself. You don't need to. The people that matter already accept you and everyone else isn't worth your time. also you are drawing loads of attention to yourself in a very public place.
#5140 Chose the wrong person
