Responding the the "Trail of Beers" thing. I knew that team of guys pretty well, and my understanding was that it was not something that the team thought would be a good idea. Obviously it isn't. It was the decision of one of the players (who had too much authority) because he thought it would be funny and made an event without a second thought or consulting everyone else. When I saw the event go up I texted one of the older guys and he was furious what the other teammate had done. Not sure what happened after but the progressive never happened and the perpetrator was somehow punished by the school. It's never funny to make fun of an event so terrible and the entire team (minus one guy) clearly knew that.
I've noticed a disturbing trend lately of shutting down people who ask honest questions about minorities and their experiences/the problems they face. I absolutely understand that it is NOT the burden of minorities to explain their life experiences to every single person that asks, nor am I saying that it should be. If I were to ask a question about the systematic oppression faced by POC, I would not expect every POC who sees my post to drop everything and write me a 10 page paper about the challenges they face every day. I would hope, however, that SOMEONE- doesn't matter if they're a part of that minority group or not, so long as they understand more about that situation than I do- would point me in the right direction. I've seen a lot of people ask questions like this only to get responses along the lines of "read a book" or "open your eyes". How the hell are these people ever supposed to learn if you don't give them anywhere to start?! Sometimes all it takes is a link to a website to get someone to start doing their own research, and to make sure they know what to look for. So please, please, next time you feel the urge to tell OP to "read a book," tell them what book. Next time you want to tell OP "open your eyes," tell them where to look. Or just don't say anything, and let other people explain for you.
TL;DR This burden shouldn't be placed on minorities, but please throw a bone to people who are trying to educate themselves.

lol @ the trail of beers. those guys probably thought that they were soooo clever: "a progressive is like a trail because you go from one room to another room to another room and like leave bodies behind" / "oh my god, one time in APUSH my teacher talked about how indians had to go from one place to another place to another place and leave bodies behind, toooo" / "dude, tears rhymes with beers, itd be so dope to call this the "trail of beers", its such a lit name" This is literally the only way I can fathom how that stupid event was created. AND THE BASEBALL GUYS WONDER WHY WE DONT LIKE THEM??? sure, they're smart enough to do a legrangian and analyze p/e growth, but damn, how can they be so dumb to turn native american genocide into a cool name for their progressive? Because they white. And ignorant. And they give no fucks about how they make other people feel. And that's why people hate on them so much.
