Dear Cute Guy at the Printer in Anderson, I didn't get a chance to catch your name but we had a conversation at the printer about Creative Writing and diversity. I would like to know your name. Sincerely, A girl who is also a Creative Writer

As much as I love Donald Trump, I really think Richard Dawkins would make a great president.

Did anybody else's plant from EOSP come with a ton of gnats?

Even though my life is a mess right now, I actually feel the most in control that I have felt in a long time because I am making the right steps to fix it rather than allow my anxiety to control me and stop me from progressing. Some days are hard, but knowing that I'm finally helping myself is one of the best feelings I have ever felt. One day at a time, just a little baby step at a time, and I just might make it. So to anyone else with anxiety issues, I get it, and it really is just those little steps that make all of the difference and, even though it may be terrifying, you can get help and there are people who are more than willing to help you, despite what your anxiety may tell you. Trust me, I waited a long time to finally ask for help and take care of myself, but it is the best decision I have ever made.

It's so confusing having anxiety issues and taking psych courses. In a way it helps you understand the material better because you can relate it to your own experiences, but it also adds fuel to the anxiety because you start to wonder if you are actually crazier than you previously thought. Not always the most helpful balance, to be honest.

I wonder if people can correlate this concept to similar ones. There is a precedent that allows the legal system to let a murderer walk away without the typical consequence. This precedent is the idea of things like "temporary insanity". Why can we find it easier to relate to this person, who had KILLED another human being, to understand that they were so far not in their right mind that we will not charge them with murder. And it's not alcohol or drugs, it's quite literally temporary insanity.I'm not saying a momentary lapse in judgment is okay. The specific lapse in sanity is completely way above and beyond the simplicity of a momentary lapse in judgment. And of course people are allowed to be upset by another's actions. But the reality of what happens afterwards in those murder cases is that we get these people some help and we move on. As best as we can move on. While the majority of cases are clearly not like this at all, it exists. The human brain is fragile and to say that there can never be an excuse for an action is ridiculous. There will ALWAYS be that one instance where we can take a look into what happened and determine that even though the action was hideous, we cannot really blame the person for that action in that instance. Trying to have an unbiased discussion on a truly strong topic is difficult. It's no wonder that Socrates was poisoned.
