Heterosexuality needs to be analysed as a political system which is as influential as capitalism and the caste system. In the caste system of heterosexuality women are constrained to the role of servicing men sexually and in other forms of labour. The labour is extracted through women’s subordinate position in the ‘family’ and justified by romantic love or cultural expectations.
You know those moments when you want to say something intimidating to someone like "I'm going to fuck you up!" but you decide halfway through to say something more creative but you haven't solidified what you're going to say so you just decide to stop talking at 'you' and then you feel very uncomfortable but not as much as the other guy?
I think it's commonly accepted that if you make a promise you should uphold that promise. If you break a promise you're considered untrustworthy, unreliable, and other things associated with morally bad people. So let me ask the Hamline community: why is it acceptable to refuse a promise related to sex? Why is it so wrong to bail on someone after promising to help them move, but so acceptable to refuse sex after promising it earlier that day? And if there truly is a difference, can it still be said that promises actually mean something?
