#5435 If the fire marshal didn't like what they saw in the sodexo kitchen why didn't they tell us what was wrong? I pay to eat that shit!

#5434 Awkward moment when you think you're over a crush, and you see him walking and all of a sudden your heart starts beating faster and your knees feel funny... Can't I just be over him?!

#5433 5429: I agree. Definitely frustrating. Especially when that's the only option you advise people on. There's nothing wrong with presenting it as an option, but there's definitely something wrong with presenting it as the only option or even just the best option.

#5432 I find I can never talk about my depression with other people who suffer from it because, ironically, they are the ones who understand the least. They can only view it from the lens of their own experience, whereas people who don't have depression are much more willing to listen to my experience and discuss from that point of view. The ones who tell you to go to CAPS do so because that was their experience and it worked for them. They don't necessarily realize that means nothing in regards to other people's individual experiences. You just keep doing what works for you.

#5431 @5429 I'm so thankful you exist. You've managed to put into words something I have been feeling for a long time. People make assumptions about mental illness. They assume that if they have depression, they can tell you how to cope with yours. They don't recognize how different people can be. In my case, people assumed therapy would fix me. They made assumptions about how I must be feeling or coping. They made assumptions that I wasn't taking the steps necessary for ME to recover. That I wasn't talking to family and friends. That I wasn't making lifestyle changes. That I wasn't on the road to recovery at all just because I wasn't seeing a therapist. Well here's a message to everyone: I know me better than you know me. If I mention that I have depression, it's not a cue for you to tell me how to live my life. The comments on your post alone articulate this issue perfectly. People get defensive and hostile at the idea that their solution isn't the right one for everyone. They assume you haven't opened up to anybody and aren't getting the support you need. It's completely baffling to me. So, thank you for people like you who seem much more open minded to a variety of perspectives.

#5430 That awkward moment when you've heard the Rollins chapter of SAE chanting the same chant the OU kids got exposed for. Y'all are lucky it wasn't you, but you better change your ways before it is.

#5429 I hate that everyone's first instinct for people who are depressed or struggling is to tell them to talk to CAPS. I'm sure that route works for some people but it is a personal preference. It won't help everyone. I have tried several different therapists and I came to the conclusion that it wasn't a route that would work for me. So even though it might have worked for you, please do not assume that it will work for everyone. Some of us know it doesn't and would much rather just hear that we have the support of our peers. Everyone already knows that it is an available resource, so can we try to have more productive responses to people's struggles?
