#3249 While the passing of a great man is always unfortunate, I think that all these Mandela statuses are pretty annoying. NOT for any reason that has to do with Nelson Mandela specifically. It's like this: How much did you think about [the deceased person] every day before their death date? How much of an impact did he/she have on your life? Do you really care about his impact on others or are you just posting the status to post the status? Are you actually remorseful like your status insinuates?
It's all a bit fake to me. It's like when Michael Jackson died. Suddenly everyone cared. The jokes about him stopped--almost as if they were forbidden by the morality gods. I'm not trying to draw any links between the two--just an example.
My point is this: we all seem to suddenly care when everyone seems to suddenly care. What does this say about us?
Let me put this in a bit more concretely: You don't really give a fuck. So, stop bullshitting yourself (and all of us).
