#3277 Okay, here's the thing. I'm a chick. I'm a sexual assault victim. I know it wasn't my fault regardless of what I wear or if I drink etc. All that being said, I kind of hate this argument about "instead of teaching girls not to get raped, teach boys not to rape." Because that's all fine and dandy in a perfect world, but since when is it the well-behaved boys that do the raping? That'd be like saying "don't teach people not to get murdered. teach people not to murder." Well yeah, if it were that easy, our world would be crime free. There's always going to be shitty people in the world. Obviously it's not a girl's fault if she gets raped, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't be taught to be careful and learn to protect herself. Whoever came up with this concept was one hell of an idealist, but in reality, the only person you can control is yourself. I am not going to walk into a violent crime area and hope that everyone's mommies taught them not to shoot anybody. Likewise, I am not going to get out-of-my-mind drunk with barely any clothes on and hope that everyone's mommies taught them not to rape me. It doesn't matter whose fault it would be, I'd rather just avoid it in the first place.
