#3862 The LGBT community does not deserve allies "no matter what." Nobody deserves support "no matter what." There is a certain level of accountability in life. If a group of people are going to tear down the ones that are trying to help them they do not get to use the excuse that they are doing it because other people like those people are trying to oppress them. That is the most hypocritical thing I have ever heard. They can't go around preaching that they don't like stereotypes and generalizations and then stereotype and generalize other groups of people. I'm all for LGBT equality, but this school's LGBT organizations and leadership are probably some of the most hypocritical and patronizing people I have ever encountered. A few years ago a good friend of mine transferred from Rollins because she did not feel accepted as a lesbian at the school to the point where it was not beneficial to her mental health. The ironic part? It wasn't the straight people that made her feel uncomfortable. It was the Spectrum kids. She expected a safe place to figure out a complicated part of her identity and instead found a hostile environment that couldn't keep their mouths shut or quit gossiping and outed her to other people before she was ready. They do nothing but make assumptions about other people. You're either labeled as gay and proud, gay and in the closet, or homophobic (and probably still in the closet). As a straight guy, I will flat out say I hate Spectrum. That does not make me a bigot. It just means that I will not support an organization that does not heed its own values.
#3861 to #3839 the first couple of months were uncomfortable for me. I was with a guy who wasn't the most knowledgable in that department. But I did find a man who was wonderful, kind, loving and patient. When you are in a relationship with a guy who not only says he loves you and cares about you, but also demonstrates it with his actions. Additionally a man who is knowledgable about not only his own body but yours and how to find what pleases you and makes you more comfortable, all of that goes into what makes a man good lover. I do hope you find that, I wish you the greatest love and connection with a partner who is kind, patient and loving enough to take the time. Don't give up, they exist :)
#3860 I have this friend who over the past several months became a really shitty person. So I've been putting up with it, giving them the benefit of the doubt, taking the disrespect and telling myself it is okay because of the memories of better times. It's maddening when they are placed on a pedestal by everyone that knows them superficially, when in actuality they are selfish, disrespectful, egotistical, and a really bad friend. After a tumultuous series of events, I realized this person didn't become a shitty person... I just finally got to know the real them. I wonder how long it will take for the rest of campus to realize the same thing?
