#3911 @3900: I don't think anyone thinks the entire organization endorses anything. The problem is that there are people who represent that organization and they do not represent it in a positive light. Additionally, the organization does not do anything to resolve these issues and because of this it does not provide an environment where everyone feels safe and comfortable. Spectrum leaders cannot be gossiping or talking shit about other LGBT people behind their back and then expect them to feel safe in the group. It would be different if this were just "someone who goes to Spectrum meetings" but it is not. It is a recurring problem among several members, some of whom are in leadership positions. I have heard this bashing of members and gossip from people that are commonly known on campus to be associated with the organization. In fact, I distinctly remember overhearing a particularly harsch conversation once that sparked a discussion between my friends about how difficult it must be to be gay on this campus when the people who are advocating for your well-being are the same people that are causing the drama around your sexuality. It's no secret to the Rollins student body how much hostility many LGBT people feel towards the organization and vice-versa. I'd like to think I'm a fairly involved person, and I have never witnessed that kind of behavior in any other organization on campus. They have their drama to be sure. But they do not bully the way I have witnessed Spectrum bully.

#3910 Its annoying when someone tries to justify wearing a trilby. The worst part is they call it a fedora and think it warrants the same respect. Try to realize that its not associated with being cool and frankly you look like an ass. Here's some real fedoras.

#3909 I enjoyed Dr. Foster's voice and she was beautiful in her performance. But 46 songs? It should have been on a sunday afternoon, at least then we would have been out earlier in the day. That is my only complaint. #nothatingjusttired #musicmajorprobz

#3906 For the love of Jesús can Rollins students stop going to jail. I love seeing white kids in preppy polos next to sex offenders and crack dealers as much as the next guy but bails are expensive, even for Rollins.

#3905 @3898 "People at Rollins who hurt our gay community the most are those who identify as gay because in my experience it's with those people where I have faced the most judgement for not being 'gay enough.'" This statement is very harmful in a lot of ways. Your feelings are completely valid regarding others' behaviors toward you because of how you express your identity; however, your statement seems like it has the potential to silence people and seems to encourage that people stay in the closet and not identify as lgbtq. Identifying as gay and being open about it doesn't automatically make you a more judgmental person, because we all choose how to behave toward each other. I know a bunch of out queer people at Rollins who don't harbor those "you need to act gay or you're not" attitudes--your generalization doesn't hold true. As a group of people at Rollins, perhaps we need to work harder against this internal stereotyping and policing. What I am NOT saying is that it is wrong to "act gay" or to not "act gay." I AM saying that we should try harder to accept people for who they feel comfortable being.
