#729 I am white. Because I am white, I do not have to deal with the institutional oppression, discrimination, hate, and lack of representation that do POC. Anyone with any perspective can see that being white is easy, that the world has been made to suit us. In this way, I am privileged. I did not choose this; it is something I am lucky to have.
It is not necessary to feel ashamed of my privilege. It is necessary to listen to those without my privileges and do what I can to help eradicate the hardships they face. I cannot make decisions or form opinions about race without considering the experiences and opinions of POC because I have never experienced oppression based on my race.
At times I may feel bad because of my privilege. Sometimes, it may be the people without my privileges that make me feel bad. But I should realize that compared to the widespread and constant oppression they face, the "pain" I bear for my privilege is nonexistent. Listening to the criticisms of disadvantaged people is more important than my ego.
Just thought I should put this out there, as a good number of you can't seem to comprehend this.
