Eatin' my Scotty's bowl, listening to the football players have loud, spontaneous orgasms in the weight room behind me #ClassicThursdayLunch
How are people in college and yet are incapable of making good presentations? How many times do people have to tell you full sentences do not belong on slides? Just because you don't put punctuation at the end of it doesn't make it ok. Is it so hard of a concept to grasp that you don't include everything you're going to say on a slide? I went to Poli Sci talks today and it still disappoints me that people can do well in academics with such low quality work. The presentations were good but it takes so much away from them to read a book on the screen as they talk. And let's not even address the fact that they all constantly looked at their slides. Isn't public speaking important in poli sci?
I don't see a problem with entrepreneurship. I am a PoC and come from an immigrant family. My parents are small business owners and our entire existence and ability to survive is because of entrepreneurship. I have entrepreneur friends who have created non-profits that help thousands of people and are making a difference in many lives. My parents and friends weren't business or Econ majors. My parents didn't even finish high school. My friends created non-profits that are relevant to their major which supports the humanities. You're limiting your view of entrepreneurship when you think of it solely as "profit-churning" and only for Econ/business-minded folk.
In regards to the baseball team: While there is definitely a problem with misogyny and toxic masculinity in this group (as there are in most groups composed of white, straight, cis men), the majority of the team are actively trying to change this. Trail of Beers is still talked about by members of the team as being a huge problem. They reference it when they talk about how they should improve. In regards to the venmo situation, one of the few members of the team who witnessed it happening actively told the guys doing it that it was a problem. I'm not saying that makes either of these things okay, but I think it should be acknowledged that there is also a self awareness stemming from a lot of the team, and an active desire to change the culture, and that's important to recognize.
I work at the library front desk and my favorite thing in the world is waving people's fines. I get such a thrill making fines go away it makes rewinding fucking mac changers for hours worth it. ??
I believe empire is the natural state of dominant civilizations - regardless of economic system.
I also don't believe that's necessarily a bad thing.
I really don't understand why PoC need a space just for them tbh. Just seems capricious
There are so many people here who claim to be super open-minded and tolerant but love to belittle other people for their taste in music or the way they speak.
