#2199 @2189 I feel you OP. Mac students aren't perfect. It's not inherently a question of what to do if we say something inconsiderate (whether it was intended or not) but how to respond considerately when we do. At Mac especially we tend to focus on identity to the nth degree. I think this can be a good thing when we start to unpack the intersectionality of who we are, where we are from, and what we do and think. But It can be taken to a point where what makes each person themselves is celebrated from person to person (because damn right I will celebrate the accomplishments of my peers and they incredible people they are) but it is taken and isolating us rather than uniting.
For example, in my experience in the Queer community has been frustrating as we belittle and criticize and make jokes of "cisgendered" and "straight' folks without considering a) you can be hella gay and cis, and b) being that petty does jack shit. Feel better for a hot second while reading ~buzzfeed~? contribute nothing to nobody? seize no means of actual control? (that last one was a joke but you feel me?)
Sweet Alabama, does it bother me that we pretend at Mac we're so liberal and so tolerant and so woke and give lip service to ~popular~spicy~issues~ and then do absolutely nothing to help, encourage those who are helping, better the situation or ourselves, or take the time outside our rigorous academic lives to mature up, talk to one another, embrace the dissent to some of the things we know and grow some resilience.
gah. I'm not mad at you but more just mad of some of the hypocrisy we perpetuate. Its just a cycle of complain or call out about a popular issue, receive social accolades, make no difference, forget, repeat, repeat, repeat. We're more stuck to tradition than we know when we do nothing.

#2196 I'm against Mac going optional. I feel like standardized tests are one of the really the only true way to compare applicants. I understand that it can sometimes just be reflection of socioeconomic status, but can't extracurriculars one was able to participate in also be just as much? I just feel like for a school that is pretty selective, we should continue to require testing
